Meet the Presenters

Katie Love and Emily Duller

Katie Love is a very new Trainee Sign Language Interpreter (TSLI) navigating early career interpreting. She has been running a community centre in Brighton for the past 7 years and comes from a non-profit background. Working mostly in charities, social care and health services, she is now faced with a range of new domains and challenges that come with the TSLI badge. Having studied BSL for over 20 years on and off, she is now faced with the role of being a 'professional' instead of a 'hearing person that can sign'. Katie lives in Brighton with her daughter, partner and too many pets.

Emily Duller is a TSLI who embarked on her professional journey in early 2024. She aims to become a Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI) by early autumn while completing her studies with BSL First. Working in North Wales, Emily has gained valuable experience supporting Deaf children in a mainstream school as a specialised Teaching Assistant. She graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) degree in British Sign Language and Deaf Studies from the University of Central Lancashire. As a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult), she brings a unique, lifelong perspective to her work.

This session explores the blurred boundary between expanding professional skills and maintaining ethical practice, highlighting how interpreters can safely transition into new domains without compromising standards or overstepping professional boundaries.
