Meet the Presenters

Dr. Kirri Dangerfield

Dr. Kirri Dangerfield has over two decades of experience as an Auslan-English interpreter in Australia, specialising in mental health settings, workplace meetings, and police interviews. Her interest in team interpreting led to her PhD research, completed in 2022, where she developed a framework to describe an interpreter’s cognitive availability when collaborating with others. This research considers factors like experience, job type, and communication style.

Kirri’s work also includes a co-authored, published case study on a novice interpreter’s self-reflective practice. Her findings have enhanced her ability to articulate her needs and offer support to colleagues in the field.

This session explores the boundary between individual expertise and collective teamwork in interpreting, examining how interpreters can balance their own professional practices with the need for collaboration to achieve shared success.
