Pick It Up, Pass It On

This year’s theme is simple, but meaningful. Pick It Up, Pass It On is about more than passing on information. It’s about sharing experience, supporting each other, and building something stronger together.

In our fast-moving, people-focused profession, every one of us carries tools, ideas, and lessons that could make a difference for someone else, whether that’s a strategy that worked in a tough moment, a mindset shift that changed your approach, or a hard-earned lesson you wish someone had shared with you.

We know that knowledge isn’t something you just keep; it’s something you adapt, use, and share across new challenges, contexts, and colleagues. This year, we’re focusing on what it means to share generously and to stay open to learning from each other at all stages.

Together, we want to think about what it means to:

  • Pick up knowledge from those around us and put it into practice.

  • Pass on skills and experience in ways that are honest, practical, and useful.

  • Build confidence in our profession by making learning a shared responsibility, recognising that everyone, from newcomers to experienced professionals, has something valuable to offer.

You’ll hear from interpreters and translators across all career stages and contexts, exploring how we can:

  • Link day-to-day practice with research, training, and lived experience.

  • Learn from international colleagues and widen our perspectives.

  • Share lessons learned, both what works and what doesn’t, to build confidence and connection.

  • Support each other through mentoring, collaboration, and honest conversations.

  • Create space for learners, early-career professionals, and those returning to the field.

Whether you’ve been in the profession for three months or thirty years, you have something valuable to offer. This is a call to contribute and to connect, to bring what you’ve picked up, and to pass it on.

Let’s keep building our collective knowledge, together. Pick it up, pass it on.
